I attached a child seat to the FJ Cruiser. The child seat I used is Joie’s Tilt. The seat belt is fixed instead of ISOFIX. If you have an FJ Cruiser and are thinking about child seats, I hope this will be helpful.
Child seat is Joie’s Tilt.
The child seat that I chose is Joie’s Tilt. I chose this because the flower pattern on the base is so cute. The color is red, which I think the floral pattern looks best on. The seat belt is fixed. ISOFIX may be easier, but I like the cute pattern, so I choose this.
Is the FJ Cruiser compatible with Joie Tilt?
Be sure to check the compatibility chart when choosing a child seat. You can check it by entering the model you are riding on the Joie compatible vehicle confirmation page.
Here, my situation, there is only one manufacturer, Toyota FJ cruiser, and only one year model, so if you select it and click search, Tilt is suitable for mounting in the second row, both forward and backward. I see what I can do.
Attach Tilt to FJ Cruiser.
Let’s actually attach the Tilt to the FJ Cruiser.
The installation location is behind the driver’s seat and faces backward.
Seat reclining to the rear mounting position.
Place the seat reclining in the rear facing mounting position. The Joie Tilt has a blue marking on its rear mounting position. Push the red reclining lever under the seat to adjust the seat angle, and align the blue circle on the seat with the blue diamond on the seat pedestal.
The three-point seat belt for the rear seat is set in advance.
Set the three-point seat belt at the place to install in advance. This time, I chose the second row left.
Insert the seat belt under the child seat.
Place the bottom of the Tilt toward the back of the rear seat, and pass the part around the waist of the seat belt through the belt under the child seat. Put the child seat upright by passing it through the lower left and right sides of the child seat.
Is the seat belt that you passed through after you’ve stood up pulled out? Are you out of alignment? Check it carefully.
Pass the seat belt through the back of the child seat.
Let’s pass the part where the seat belt is hooked up and the diagonal belt to the part where the seat belt passes on the back of the child seat. There is also a blue marking on the place where you can pass the seat belt.
Clip the seat belt with the attached clip.
The rest is fixed. Push the child seat firmly from the top and tighten the seat belt in the winding direction. After confirming that the seat belt is securely tightened, use the attached clip to pinch the upper part of the seat belt buckle, as close as possible to the part that will be hooked.
Confirm that it is firmly fixed and complete the installation.
Is it firmly fixed? Shake the lower base of the main unit to check. It is OK if it is firmly fixed. If you feel uneasy, try fixing the child seat.
Summary
I attached a child seat, Joie’s Tilt to the FJ Cruiser. This time, I attached it to the back of the driver’s seat. If the driver’s seat is positioned so that it does not interfere with the child seat, the driver’s seat will be a little cramped, but there is no problem in driving. After watching the situation for a while, if I feel cramped, I will change the installation location to the back of the passenger seat. We hope this will be helpful for those who are considering installing a child seat on the FJ Cruiser.
Mount forward.
After more than half a year, my child got bigger, so I installed it forward. Please also refer to this.
