Are you doing tire rotating regularly? I want to use the tires evenly, including spare tires, so I rotate five wheels every 5,000km. This time it was cool and the weather was nice so I did it myself. Tire rotation of FJ Cruiser It would be greatly appreciated if you could refer to it if you would like to try it yourself.
Tire rotation method including spare tires.
I want to use the tires evenly, including spare tires, so I rotate five-wheel tires. Where to move which tire? I do the following: In short, this method is OK as long as it is used evenly in the front, rear, left and right rotation directions after one rotation of the tire.
Tire rotation work
First, prepare in-vehicle tools and jacks.
The FJ Cruiser vehicle tools and jack are stored in the space to the left of the trunk space.
Let’s take this out.
Then remove the spare tire.
Let’s remove the spare tire on the back. Remove the center cover of the genuine tire cover, and remove the bolts holding the tire cover. Then remove the three nuts that secure the tire and prepare a spare tire.
Rotation starts from the front left.
Since the spare tire is put in the front left, remove it from the front left tire. My FJ Cruiser is a genuine iron chin wheel. So first remove the center cap using an in-vehicle tool. Hook the round claw on the center cap as shown in the photo, and shift the center cap using the lever principle. The center cap can be removed at several places.
Loosen the wheel nuts a little before jacking up. It is difficult to apply force when jacking up. You can do it with an in-vehicle tool, but it is convenient to have a cross wrench as shown in the photo.
The jack-up point on the front should be applied to the flat part of the ladder frame. I made it to the place in the picture.
Jack handle of in-vehicle tool Do your best to turn the jack until the tire is about 1 to 2 cm off the ground, and then remove the tire.
Then check the remaining amount of the brake pads. It’s okay because it’s still over 5mm.
Attach the tire that was a spare tire, close the wheel nut until it can be lightly hand tightened, and lower the jack.
When you’re completely off the jack, tighten it slightly with a cross wrench.
Carry spare tires on the back left, front right and back right repeatedly.
Roll the tire that was in the front left that you removed, and then replace it with the back left. The rear jack up is on the rigid axle.
Repeat the work done to the left front to replace the tires. Similarly, replace the front right and rear right, and carry a spare tire on your back.
Work is completed by tightening the wheel nut with a torque wrench.
The wheel nut tightening torque for the FJ Cruiser is 113 Nm.
Set the torque wrench to that value, fasten all the wheel nuts, and remember to attach the center cap.
This time, the total working time was about 1 hour.
Summary
I wrote about 5 wheel tire rotation including spare tire of FJ Cruiser. It will also be a practice of using in-vehicle tools, and you can check underpart that you do not normally see, so please give it a try! You don’t have to use the torque wrench for the final tightening, but it is safer if you do.
