My current car is the FJ Cruiser. If you check with the FJ Cruiser, you will find various information such as various advantages and disadvantages, satisfaction, dissatisfaction, fuel consumption, etc. This time I’ll write what I have been dissatisfied with as the owner. I hope it will be helpful for those who are thinking about purchasing.
What is FJ Cruiser
The FJ Cruiser is an SUV manufactured by Toyota from 2006 to 2018.
The motif is the FJ40 type land cruiser, with “round headlights”, “alphabet TOYOTA logo” and “white roof.”
Originally it was a vehicle exclusively for North America, but since it has become popular in Japan, it has been sold in Japan since December 2010. Both overseas and domestic specifications were produced at the Hino Motors Hamura Plant.
I’m not happy with the FJ Cruiser at these points.
My FJ Cruiser is a 2013 color package. I have been riding 50,000 km for 5 years now. As mentioned above, the production of the FJ Cruiser started in 2006, so the basic design is a very old car. So the current car does not have certain equipment as a matter of course.
- It has Only handle tilt adjustment.
Adjusting the handle position can only be done by roughly adjusting the tilt.
- There is no switch for moving the wiper only once.
Most cars can be driven only once with the wiper off and up. But the FJ Cruiser doesn’t have that. The only way to move the wiper once is to move it from OFF to ON and turn it ON as you would with a normal wiper.
- Manual air conditioner.
It is old style a dial type manual air conditioner.
- Power window auto is open and drivers seat only.
Power window auto can only be opened.
I want it when it is closed.
- Normal suspension is too soft
The normal suspension is too soft. At first, it was a stop-and-go pitching, a roll at the corner, and both were intense. Now that I’m used to that setting, I’m driving less pitch and less roll. It may be better with the optional X-REAS or off-road package Bilstein, but I have not tried it. I will try to change it if the present is exhausted.
- Poor fuel economy
It’s a 4L engine that goes backwards in the eco era, so fuel consumption is bad.
I’m buying it after I understand it. Given the specific numbers,
Town ride in Tokyo: 5-6km / L
Expressway: 10km / L
is. Fuel efficiency is poor if there are many stop-and-go roads in Tokyo. If you go to a local city, there are not as many stop-and-gos as in Tokyo, so fuel consumption will increase. In fact, when I drove in Toyama for about 3 days, it grew to 8km / L. If you live in the countryside rather than in the city, I think fuel efficiency is not a big problem.
A little satisfying point.
I’m dissatisfied, but will you switch to another car now? I think that I will continue to ride for a while because there is no car I want to ride than the FJ Cruiser. I’m satisfied
- A cute round headlight that is rare nowadays
- Full-scale SUV with ladder frame and auxiliary transmission
Summary
I wrote about FJ Cruiser’s negative points. I’m dissatisfied, but it’s also true that there is no other car I want. I hope it will be helpful for those who are considering FJ Cruiser.
