There are two horned frogs in my house. Cranwell frog male and female. I’ve written that horned frogs are recommended because they are easier to raise than other amphibians and reptiles. This time I will write about the breeding environment of my home in more detail.

Why do I have a frog?

Everybody is amazed when I said having a frog.
In addition, we are often asked “What is fun?” When asked what is fun, I also have a hard time answering, but I personally like the shape and pattern, I am excited about the dynamic of feeding, it is interesting to see molting, I have a lot of fun. .. In Japan, frogs are known as “lucky frogs” and “money hangers”, and in Europe they are known as a symbol of good luck and good luck because they produce a lot of eggs.
I also hope that buying a horned frog will bring good luck to my home.

Cranwell horned frog

Originally a frog that lives in the wetlands of South America. The camouflage pattern on the body.
I liked this pattern and decided to try and keep it. The size at the time of purchase is very small. The child later turned out to be male by screaming.
When it gets bigger, it’s about 12 to 15 cm in length, about the size of an adult’s palm.
The grown-up female female looks like this. I usually stay still but have a good appetite. Feeding is one of the pleasures of breeding frogs. The male cries. My male barks during the summer nights.
“Guye!”
It is quite a loud cry, so you may be surprised and awake. It has a long life expectancy of 10 years or more, so it lives a long time.

Cranwell horned frog’s food

When I bought a frog,
“Eating live food may cause dyspepsia such as bones and lead to illness.”
Since I heard that it is artificial feed unless there is anything special. I’ve given him some live food, but I’ve never liked it with live food and artificial feed.
I think that you don’t have to worry about the type of bait, because anything that came in front of you had a great appetite to eat. When feeding, you should eat anything that comes in front of you as described above, so use chopsticks and skewers instead of hand-feeding. We use wooden tweezers sold at pet stores. This is a female female eating scene. Unusually, I gave me a medaka fish, which was a live bait, but I made a mistake and failed. The pink that comes out is tongue. It seems to be sticky and sticks the prey with this so as not to miss it.

Cranwell horned frog breeding environment

At my home, I don’t make a beautiful terrarium, but in a small plastic case I use an aquarium filter underneath. Thanks to that, it is easy to clean and to find the occasional droppings. Clean it about twice a week. Water exchange and filtration If the filter is worn out, replace it. If not, reuse it. Hun only once every 1-3 months. My male has never done so for half a year. The buns appear to be wrapped in a soft film that can be easily cleaned if they do not tear. Some frogs push their feet with their feet to move them far away, so they may break at that time. If you find one, clean it immediately. In the wild, it’s a style of diving under the ground and waiting for prey to pass in front of them, so it basically does not move.
Even in the breeding environment of my home, they keep their body still by embedding  in a filtration filter. Since it is vulnerable to the cold, I will attach a panel heater under the plastic case in winter. Also, when it gets cold, they lose their appetite, so at our home, the frequency of feeding was 1/week in the summer and 1/month in the winter. Even one meal a month will help they live. I think that such a small animal is quite durable.

Cranwell horned frog molting

The horned frog molts. When removing skin, first inflate the body as much as possible to lift the old skin off the body. Then use their feet to wipe the old skin. The frogs of my family eat their skins themselves. It seems that there are some horned frogs that I do not eat when I examine it, so it may depend on the individual. It is the owner’s privilege to see molting.
Please see the appearance of the molting of the female at home.

They hibernate?

The male does not move at all in winter and does not eat food. Is it hibernation? When I looked it up, there was some information that wild horned frogs could fall asleep to cope with dryness, but there was no information about hibernation. It’s been two years since I started writing, and I’m fine in the winter without eating more than half a year. Thank you.

summary

I used to write that I recommend the frog because it is easy to breed. This time, I introduced the case of my house frog in a little more detail. I hope that it will be helpful to the owners. #pet #Pacman_frog
