Impressions of using XPS15 2-in-1 for about 3 weeks.
I had the opportunity to try the XPS 15 2-in-1 with the Dell Ambassador Program this time. The first purpose I wanted to try is the Maglev keyboard. The main laptop I use now is the Macbook pro 13inch. I think everyone knows this keyboard there are various problems with butterfly keyboards. How was the XPS 15 2-in-1 as your next laptop candidate? I want to write your impressions.
XPS15 2-in-1 Maglev Keyboard usability.
Well, the Maglev keyboard, which it was the main purpose, I really liked the conclusion. The keystrokes are as shallow as those of recent laptops, but they have a moderate sense of rigidity and a solid keystroke, making me feel comfortable typing. On the other hand, the Macbook pro feels the same keystroke, but the keystroke feeling is light. It’s good because you can type with a light touch. However, for those of you who want a solid feel like typing, I think the Maglev keyboard is a better choice.I sometimes made a typo because the key layout is different between Mac and Windows, but if I choose an English keyboard, I can reduce the typos due to the difference in the key layout I think. I think this XPS 15 2-in-1 is also good because you can select an English keyboard at the time of purchase.
4K display is beautiful
The 4K display is absolutely beautiful. Personally, I felt that the photos and videos were displayed more beautifully than the Retina of Macbook pro 13inch. The XPS15 2-in-1’s CPU has KabyLake-G and a GPU, so I felt that it was very suitable for image editing and video editing when combined with a 4K display.
Touch display is convenient for watching movies
The touch display is very convenient because I can operate it by touching the display when watching videos. Other than that, I think that it is convenient when there are times when you want to touch the display occasionally, such as enlarged image display. But personally, I’m worried about the traces left on my laptop display. It would be nice to wipe it clean each time it is used, but it will be troublesome and eventually the touch panel will not be used.
I am worried that the weight is often carried.
It weighs just under 2 kg. It’s not too heavy to carry, but it feels a little heavy considering that you carry it often.
The finish of each part is at a satisfactory level.
The finish of the aluminum top plate and the bottom and inside carbon fiber material is very good. I personally liked the hinge part. It is finished in a large block and is designed to fit neatly when closed, when opened, in tablet mode, “God is in the details”.
Will XPS15 2-in-1 be the next laptop candidate?
Now, though it was a short time this time, I got the opportunity to touch the XPS15 2-in-1. I didn’t use it to make full use of the performance of KabyLake-G’s CPU and GPU, but I tried various keyboards and displays that I often use. Personally, it is a very satisfying product except for its weight. That’s why I went back to the DELL site and reviewed what I should buy, and there is New XPS13 2-in-1.Here, CPU and graphics performance is a little lower than XPS 15 2-in-1, but the weight and size are almost the same as Macbook pro 13 inch. And the keyboard is my favorite, the MagLev keyboard, and I can choose the white one too, which suits my taste. Also, the position of the in-camera that I was worried about has changed from the bottom of the display to the top. So at this time the laptop candidate is XPS13 2-in-1 instead of XPS15.
Summary
I had the opportunity to try XPS 15 2-in-1 with the Dell Ambassador Program. Personally, I like the MagLev keyboard because it has a stronger keystroke feeling than the Macbook butterfly keyboard. I think the 4K display is beautiful and the finish is full of luxury. The only thing I was worried about was the weight, but with XPS13 2-in-1 that point was cleared. At the moment (as of October 2019), I think XPS13 2-in-1 will be the next purchase. I hope this will be helpful to anyone considering to buy the DELL XPS 15 or XPS 13 2-in-1.
